Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! We would like to begin by wishing you all a Merry Christmas, and expressing our appreciation for all you prayers over the last year. We assure you that the Lord has been at work in the border cities of Brownsville and Matamoros.
Just last week I met with Pastor David of the Matamoros Church of the Nazarene, about a block from the border in Brownsville. A month and a half ago, we began a new ministry among migrant workers who cross the Rio Grande River every day, in hope of finding work to provide for their families. More often than not, they spend their time waiting in a downtown parking lot. When the day begins to wear, they often make a collection for a few drinks to take the sting out of another disappointing trip home.
For the first few weeks, we began by taking them Mexican sweat bread, coffee and tracts. I was occasionally able to share a few verses with my limited Spanish, but there were no major breakthroughs. However, since Pastor David has joined with me, we have been able to preach the Word. Last week, fifteen of them prayed with us. Praise His holy name! It reminded me of a verse I read in my devotions just yesterday: “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9) Please keep this ministry in your prayers.
The new church in Matamoros that began following a Vacation Bible School is going strong. They are still meeting in an old abandoned house, in a poorer suburb. This church is composed of children only, who all have one common interest - the Word of the Lord. There are now at least 40 in attendance each week. Some of you have expressed an interest in helping one of its members, Raul, who is blind. It is now been verified that this young boy will be able to see again, if he is able to have surgery. However, we are still waiting for all the details. We will be going down to visit this church next week, and will report back to all those who would like to help.
Over the past two months, we have felt such a strong need to wait upon the Lord, regarding the ministries on the Brownsville side of the border. As many of you know, this is not the easiest task in a culture that demands that we constantly be on the move, if we wish to achieve success. We have desired to see the church growth in Brownsville, as we have witnessed in Matamoros. However, the results of outreach in this community have been miniscule (as far a the human eye can see).
We ask that you pray that we continue to wait, and not to fall prey to any ungodly ways of building the church. We must not be driven by the pressures of life, but patiently wait upon the Giver of life. After all it is His church, and He must build it!
Aaron responded to pressure of the people, instead of waiting upon a word from the Lord while Moses was on Mt. Sinai:
“Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, “come make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” (Exodus 32:1)
The Israelites were not prepared to wait upon the Lord, so they pressured Aaron to make their own plans. Aaron became the people-pleaser, and yielded to pressure. For the pastor who is surrounded by a people and a culture who expect church growth now, there will always a great temptation to substitute waiting on the Lord for the ways of man. Essentially, he is tempted not to trust in the Lord, but to hearken unto the voice of man. Here is where the great apostasy of humanism begins.
Once again, please pray that we wait upon the Lord here at Lighthouse Ministries. May our every move on the border be sanctioned by the Almighty, and be carried out for His glory. Thank you once again for all your prayers, and may God bless both you and your families this Christmas!

¡Saludos en el nombre precioso de nuestro Señor Jesucristo! Quisieramos empezar esta carta deceandoles una Feliz Navidad y tambien expresandoles nuestra apreciasion por sus oraciones durante todo el año. Les aseguramos que el Señor a estado obrando en las ciudades fronterizas de Brownsville y Matamoros.
Apenas me encontré la semana pasada con el pastor David de la iglesia Nazarena en Matamoros, a un bloque de la frontera en Brownsville. Have un mes y medio, comenzamos un nuevo ministerio entre los trabajadores emigrantes que diario cruzan el Rio Grande, con la esperanza de encontrar trabajo para proever para sus familias. A menudo, terminan pasando su tiempo esperando en un estacionamiento céntrico. Cuando el día comienza a llegar a su final, juntan monedas para comprar un trago, el cual hara olvidar el dolor de otro viaje decepcionante a casa.
Las primeras semanas, comenzamos por llevarles pan dulce, café y tratados. Podia de vez en cuando compartir algunos versos con mi español limitado, pero no había brechas importantes. Sin embargo, desde que el Pastor David ha ensamblado conmigo, hemos podido predicar la Palabra. Esta mañana, quince de ellos oraron con nosotros. ¡Bendecido sea Su nombre santo! Esto me recordó de un verso que apenas ayer por la mañana habia leido en mi devocional: “Mejores son dos que uno; porque tienen mejor paga de su trabajo.” (Ecclesiastes 4: 9) Favor de mantener este ministerio en sus oraciones.
La nueva iglesia en Matamoros que comenzó despues de que termino la Escuela Biblica de Vacaciones sigue creciendo. Todavía se están reuniendo en una casa abandonada, en una area de más pobreza. Esta iglesia se compone niños solamente, y todos con un interés común - la Palabra del Dios. Al momento se reunen aproximadamente 40 cada semana. Algunos de ustedes han expresado un interés en ayudar uno de los miembros, Raúl, quien está ciego. Nos han verificado que este joven podria ver otra vez, despues de una operacion. Sin embargo, todavía estamos esperando todos los detalles. Estaremos visitando esta iglesia la semana próxima, y les traeremos un reporte a aquellos que han expresado querer ayudar a Raul.
Durante los últimos dos meses, hemos sentido una necesidad tan fuerte de esperar en el Señor, con respecto a los ministerios en el lado de Brownsville. Como muchos de ustedes ya saben, ésta no es la tarea más fácil de una cultura que exije que estemos constantemente en movimiento, si deseamos alcanzar éxito. Como en Matamoros, deceamos ver el mismo crecimiento en la iglesia de Brownsville. Sin embargo, los resultados del evangelismo en esta comunidad han sido minúsculos (claro, a lo que el ojo humano puede ver).
Pedimos que sigan orando que mientras esperamos no vayamos a caer presos a cualquier manera impía de construir la iglesia. No debemos ser conducidos por las presiones de la vida, sino esperar pacientemente al El que da la vida ¡Ya que esta es Su Iglesia, El debe construirla!
Mientras Moisés estaba en el Monte Sinai, Aarón respondio a la presion de el pueblo, embez de esperar en una palabra de el Señor:
“Viendo el pueblo que Moisés tardaba en descender del monte, se acercaron entonces a Aarón, y le dijeron: Levántate, haznos dioses que vayan delante de nosotros; porque a este Moisés, el varón que nos sacó de la tierra de Egipto, no sabemos qué le haya acontecido.” (Exodo 32:1)
Los Israelitas no estaban preparados para esperar en el Señor, así que ejercieron presión sobre Aarón para hacer sus propios planes. Aarón se convertio en alguien quien complace a la gente, y se rindió a la presión. Para el pastor que esta rodeado de gente y una cultura quienes cuentan con crecimiento de la iglesia instantaniamente, siempre habra una gran tentación de substituir el esperar en el Señor y rendirse a las maneras del hombre. Esencialmente, lo tientan para no confiar en en el Señor, sino para estar atento a la voz del hombre. E aquí es donde la gran apostasía del humanismo comienza.
De nuevo, les pido que por favor oren que podamos esperar en el Señor aqui en este ministerio de Faro de Dios. Que cada movimiento en la frontera sea sancionado por el Todopoderoso, y realizado para Su gloria. ¡Gracias de nuevo por todas sus oraciones! Que Dios los bendiga a todos ustedes y a sus familias en esta Navidad.
